sickies

Ugh!  We just got back from the doctor and Jayden and Bella are both sickies. 

For the past couple of weeks Bella has been so congested.  Actually, Jayden and Bella have both been congested on and off for the past couple of weeks.  Jayden's congestion has cleared up a lot, but he has just not been acting quite 100%.  Probably no one else would ever know he was sick, but I guess it is just "mommy's instinct" I knew something was wrong.  He has not had a fever, but has been kinda clamy and cranky.  Bella has not had a fever either, but she has been having SUCH a hard time sleeping.  I have been up with her every hour for the past 3 nights.  Even her naps have been very difficult.  Let's face it...Bella has just always been a "difficult" baby so it is hard to know if she is sick when she is fussy or just being Bella!  The last two times I have taken her to the doctor in the past couple months for fussiness/pulling ears/trouble sleeping, etc. she has just been teething (ears perfect) and we were sent on our way...

Anyway, this morning when Jayden was being a crankpot and refusing chocolate milk (which he LOVES) I called the pediatrician and made them both appointments to see the doctor.  Thankfully, Jared is off work so we got to go as a family!  As we were getting ready, Jayden and Bella were playing all over the place, laughing up a storm, and into everything...Jared thought it was so stupid we were going to the doctor since they were both acting so fine.  But, I insisted.  Especially because it is Friday and if they were sick and we didn't go, I did not want to end up going to emergent care over the weekend.

So, the doctor checked Jayden first.  Ears were fine.  Throat red and lots of drianage.  She said at minimum he had a sinus infection and would need an antibiotic.  She wanted to do a strep test, too.  He had strep about 3 months ago (for the first time) and did not have a fever that time.  Bella was checked next.  Dr. looked in her ear and said, "Her ear is infected."  Then, she checked the other ear.  Double ear infection!  =( Poor baby!  =(  Then she said she has a sinus infection, too.  She said her sinuses are so inflammed that it is causing drainage to come out of her eyes.  yuck.  She looked miserable!  Meanwhile, the nurse came in to swab Jayden's throat.  (he did the tickle test like a champ!)  She told Jared to take Jayden to get a lollipop while they waited for the strep test to run because it takes a few minutes.  About 1 minute later, she came in and said strep test was positive.  Geezz!!!! 

Bella has numbing ear drops for the pain and an antibiotic.  Jayden has an antibiotic.  It sucks to have sickies.  I feel so bad.  Oh, and today Bella's top teeth cut through.  So, she has pain from that on top of everything else! 

Tomorrow is Norm's Bday.  We were supposed to go to Richmond to celebrate after soccer tots.  Guess we are just going to be taking it easy and getting these precious kiddies back to feeling better!  =)
