Jayden the Bruiser: First Black Eye

My poor sweet baby boy had a rough week last week. It started on Monday. It was a good thing Aunt Stacy offered to watch him because he woke up Monday morning with a bad cold- runny nose, congestion, and cough. He spent the day at home with Stacy. Then,Monday night bath was almost over when Jayden fell and hit his head on the side of the tub. :( He screamed and immediately, the outside corner of his right eye swelled up like this:

I called the triage nurse through Jayden's doctor because I was debating whether or not he needed to go to the ER. You never know with head injuries and I was very concerned. They talked to us for a while... told us not to give him any pain medicine because that can mask the injury... Only give clear liquids in case he throws up (which he never did).
...keep him awake for a while to monitor before he goes to sleep... and wake him up every two hours through the night to make sure he is walking, etc. We did not have to bring him in that night unless the swelling became larger than 2 inches. Otherwise, we were to bring him in to see the doctor the next day just to check it out. Jared and I were so worried about him and checked on him all night!

The next morning, this is what it looked like:

It just so happened, Jayden already had an appointment with the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor Tuesday morning so Jared was already planning to take the day off for this. It has been 7 months since Jayden had his ear tubes put in and has to have an appointment every 6 months while the tubes are in. Anyway, long story short, one of the ear tubes looked perfect. The other one had come out, but not completely. It was out of place and collecting wax in his ear. Jared had to basically pin him down so the doctor could scrape the wax out! :( He has to go back in 3 weeks to make sure it has healed. I am not sure if we need to get a new tube put in or not.

After the adventures at the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor, Jared headed to the pediatrician to get Jayden's eye checked out, as well as to have her check him out for his cold symptoms. As if Jayden had not been through enough in the past 24 hours, he was wheezing and the doctor had him do a nebulizer treatment (which he HATES!) sooo again Jared had to "torture" him with the doctor to do this. The doctor also had to push on his cheek bone hard to make sure it was not broken.

I am glad Jared was the one having to do all this because it breaks my heart to see Jayden in pain. :( But, he is on the mend. The eye actually is getting better, but as it is healing, the bruising is getting darker and darker.... which looks worse, but it is getting better.

Jared was home with him again on Wednesday. Thursday, we were all set to go back to daycare, but then I got a surprise snow day! So Jayden got to spend another day at home recovering and playing with me! I took a couple pictures of Jayden's eye:

Notice the "Rough and Tough" shirt. He is one rough and tough little boy. Fearless. Wild. Crazy. Seriously, he is a daredevil! He climbs on EVERYTHING, JUMPS off everything, runs/walks into everything.... Really, he needs to be in a bubble. Or wear a helmet. But, he is not in a bubble and I am not going to put him in a helmet to live everyday life. He is just a wild boy FULL of so much energy. I hope our next baby is calmer. haha!

He went back to daycare on Friday and we had to explain the black eye to everyone.

Things happen with little ones. They are fast! And strong! I remember your being his age when you flipped over and off the changing table. Then there was the time you fell down a flight of stairs (carpeted thank God). I'm just glad he his head where he did and not 1/2" higher or to the left. Hugs and kisses to make it feel better.
